So many graduations happened over the past couple weeks. Last Saturday, I attended my cousin Bianca‘s graduation party. I can’t believe she is off to college in just a few months! I remember shooting her photos and knowing the year would fly by. It did. Summer got here SO fast. Well, summer means a new round of seniors! My first senior session of the year was with rising Massaponax senior, Kelly! This girl was the SWEETEST! We did her session a little early because her summer is packed full of field hockey camps and a long family vacation. Enjoy your senior year, Kelly! Soak it all in, girl! Kacie & Andrew | Washington, D.C. Engagement

I arrived at Kacie and Andrews place Sunday afternoon for their engagement session. It was another crazy hot Virginia day, but we were determined to get the pictures done! I had heard about Peanut… their teeny-tiny rescued Chihuahua. Kacie had mentioned he wasn’t the friendliest and would probably not cooperate all that well. He didn’t like other dogs and really doesn’t do well with strangers. Well, call me a dog whisperer because Peanut and I were like long lost friends. He was the sweetest little thing! I’m sure some of Kacie and Andrew’s friends and family are reading this thinking no way – not possible – Peanut?! Well, he was very cooperative and looked quite handsome in the first half of the session. After an outfit change, we headed into the city to get some shots around the monuments. We had to dodge some crazy wind, big crowds and humid temperatures but they rocked it! I’m very excited for their 2014 wedding! Enjoy some of my favorites!

Elizabeth & Luke | Fredericksburg Country Club Wedding

One of the very first emails I got from Elizabeth had a link to this FRIENDS video. I instantly knew I loved this girl. Not going to lie… I was a little scared. Was Luke REALLY going to photograph like Chandler Bing?! Good news… He definitely did not! If you live in Virginia, you know last Saturday was a hot one. 90+ degree heat… But, the sun was shining and minus the temperature it was a gorgeous day. After the beautiful ceremony, we traveled to the Country Club. I was worried portrait time would be a hot, muggy mess. Again, good news… It wasn’t! A breeze rolled through and everyone was good to go!

Elizabeth and Luke’s love is beautiful. Being around them, their friends and their family just makes you happy. Once you see these pictures, you’ll see what I mean. They were nothing but smiles – the best way to be on your wedding day! Photographing this important day in their life was truly an honor. I had A LOT of favorites…. Enjoy! Leah & Jesse | Downtown Fredericksburg Engagement

I’ve been sitting here trying to find a way to write a little something about Leah and Jesse and all I can come up with is I. Love. This. Couple. For real. When I met Leah a few months back, I’m pretty sure we talked way longer than necessary. But, that’s ok, right? We talked wedding plans, stressful jobs, acquaintances, and so on and so forth. Finally came engagement session day and I met Jesse. As sweet and kind as Leah is, Jesse was truly her equal. Both of them compliment each other so well. Being around them is a contagious happiness. We were rained out during the second half of their session, but we met up the next day and picked up right where we left off. I’m so excited for your wedding day, Leah and Jesse! Can’t wait! Angie & Will | Belmont Wedding

Memorial Day weekend marked my first wedding of the 2013 season! Will and Angie were married on the beautiful grounds of Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont. These two are another high school sweetheart story. I swear I am not making this up. I know I shoot A LOT of these stories, and I’m ok with it. They are just so sweet. So, Angie and Will were years in the making and they finally said ‘I Do’ in the beautiful garden of Belmont! The weather was perfect, Angie was stunning and Will was so excited to make her his wife. Congratulations Angie and Will! I hope you are having a blast in Hawaii! Thank you to Sara of Wolfcrest Photography for second shooting the day with me!

Happy Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’ Day and in all honesty, I have no idea how to put into words what my mom means to me. But, I’m going to try….

My mom is selfless. EVERYONE comes before her. Her children, her husband, her friends, her siblings, her parents, her students, her co-workers… she puts every single person in her life before anything she needs. I seriously have no recollection of a time my mom ever said “I’m going to take a day for just me”. Never. Oh, you need your grass cut? She’s there. Oh, you need food for a party your having? Consider it cooked. Oh, you need a ride to an appointment? Hop in. She is ALWAYS there. The amount of tasks she crams into a 24 hour day will forever leave me puzzled.

My mom is inspirational. For those of you that don’t know my mom, she is a special needs teacher (recently turned Autism specialist). Being a special needs teacher is ALL my mom ever wanted to be. I’ve met a few parents of the children my mom taught. I firmly believe after talking to them, my mom has changed their life for the better. I can only dream one day I can change the life of ONE person the way my mom has changed all the lives of her students. Even the ones that couldn’t speak had a light in their eye when my mom was around. I will forever be in awe of my mother. She would teach a very hectic, physically challenging, emotionally draining classroom all day… then come home to us… and We. Are. Crazy. Some how, some way, there was ALWAYS a home cooked meal on the table and she always wanted to hear how our day was.

I’m the only daughter. I have one older brother and three younger step-brothers. We were surrounded by boys! There was a time I KNOW I was awful. I remember it pretty clearly. Kicking, screaming, yelling…. just AWFUL. But, she did not give up on me. As much as she probably wanted to, she didn’t ship me off to live with my dad or pack my bags and tell me to go to my grandparents. She rode my dreadful wave of crazy until it was over. We are closer now than we have ever been. She is my number one cheerleader, best friend and will support every decision I make. Always.

ONE DAY, God willing, I hope I can be half the mother she is. I truly hope I inherited at least one ounce of her soul. I hope I can run a household as flawlessly as she does. I hope I can love everyone in my life the way she does.

I know my mom, so I know, for 100% fact, as she is reading this she is crying. Mom, please know those should be nothing but happy tears… full of sobs of accomplishment. You did an amazing job. I love you more than you know.

And what’s a post without pictures?!
My mom sewed all my costumes. Somehow she made time for that. Thanks for making me the best dressed Leprechaun Hazelwild had ever seen.

Not only did she sew my costumes, she made her own. She made sure she dressed the part for all my birthday parties. Clown party? No problem. Clown cake, clown plates, clown favors MOM AS A REAL LIFE CLOWN. So amazing. (When I get my hands on it, I’m adding the photo of her Mickey Mouse costume… Best. Birthday. Ever.)

And last but not least. Even when I looked like this…. She still found joy and laughter in every day.

Stephanie and Kyle | Washington, D.C. Engagement

It’s no secret that driving in DC freaks me out. I’ve said it 100 times. But this time I had confidence. Stephanie and Kyle opted for a sunrise session. How much DC traffic can there be at 6 am?! Zero! And it was great. I spent the morning getting to know Stephanie and Kyle. I learned a lot about the monuments, their relationship and their upcoming wedding. My favorite part? They gave me a tiny glimpse of the Eastern Market (and the most amazing crêpe from a local vendor)! I am already plotting my next trip back to really get the full effect. Stephanie and Kyle are going to have a gorgeous wedding surrounded with family and friends from all over! In the mean time, enjoy some of my favorites from their engagement session!

Autumn and Daniel | Barboursville Vineyard Engagement

This engagement has been a long time coming. Eight years in the making. Daniel and Autumn are finally getting married! I’ve known Daniel’s family forever. And over the years, I remember asking his dad time and time again, has Daniel proposed yet?! Finally! He did! And finally, I got to meet Autumn! She was as sweet and wonderful in person as I had heard. We took a nice drive out to Barboursville Vineyard for their engagement photos. This vineyard was where Daniel popped the question. That place was awesome! It was a gorgeous day and these two made me even more excited for my upcoming wedding season. Molly and Mike | Downtown Fredericksburg Engagement

I know I write this a lot… but I SWEAR it’s true. Molly and Mike are another high school sweetheart story. And I love it. 8 years in the making and they are FINALLY tying the knot this October. This great state of Virginia brought some GORGEOUS weather last weekend and it made taking their photos even more amazing. We spent the afternoon strolling the river, feeding their pup Cooper some pepperonis and exploring a couple of blocks in old town Fredericksburg. Amongst all of that, we talked wedding plans. So excited for their big day! 2013 will be amazing. Enjoy a few of my favorites from Molly and Mike’s engagement session!

Nicki and David | Washington D.C. Engagement

My blog has seriously been neglected lately. And it’s no one’s fault but my own. But, never fear faithful followers! Engagement season is officially underway! There are a ton of great shoots coming to the blog! My engagement season started of with Nicki and David in Washington, D.C.! Nicki and I go back. WAY back. So far back she mentioned how she was going to find a picture of me from her 6th birthday party. Oh my. Nicki and I went to elementary, high school AND college together. It has certainly been a long time since I had seen her, but we talked and chatted like we just saw each other last week. Nicki was just as wonderful as I remember her. So, it’s no surprise David fell in love with her. Their story was so interesting to me. Nicki and David met through mutual friends TWO WEEKS before he was being re-stationed to SEATTLE. Geez, Army. Talk about some bad timing. Nicki liked him, but didn’t get TOO attached… after all, he was about to leave. But, the distance didn’t stop the phone calls and texting. In Nicki’s words… “he was so persistent” So, fast forward many visits later, Nicki has moved to Seattle to be with David. The happy couple was in town for this ONE weekend for their engagement party SO they also wanted some engagement photos! This RIDICULOUS Virginia weather put a huge damper on their hopes for Cherry Blossoms. We made do anyway! See some of my favorites below. Congratulations David and Nicki!
